Miami Dental Implants Dentist

Miami dental implants offer people who are missing a tooth or multiple teeth a way to restore their smile, improve their ability to speak clearly and chew effectively. Due to the benefits of implants, many people are choosing to replace their missing teeth with dental prostheses attached to implants instead of using traditional dentures, bridges and partials.

Miami Dental Implants Allow People To Feel Good About Their Smiles

Tooth loss is relatively common, with nearly 70% of adults between the ages of 35 to 44 missing at least one secondary tooth due to trauma, decay, a failed root canal or gum disease. Because they feel self-conscious about the way they look, people who have cracked, broken or missing teeth may interact differently with others. With dental implants in Miami, Dr. Ramon Bana restores the natural look and feel of healthy teeth, helping his patients find joy in smiling again.

Why Is Replacing Missing Teeth So Important?

The loss of a tooth can lead to a decrease in self-esteem, especially when the gap left behind negatively affects an individual’s smile. Besides the visual changes, losing a tooth can make eating and speaking a challenge. Choosing to replace the tooth early on can prevent the after effects associated with tooth loss, including the shifting of the remaining teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dr. Bana uses porcelain crowns to replace the visible portion of missing teeth and implants to replace the roots beneath the gum line that anchor the teeth. Once Dr. Ramon Bana inserts the implant into the patient’s jawbone, the bonding process (i.e., osseointegration) begins.

Although surgical recovery only lasts a week or two, the full osseointegration process typically takes from 3 to 6 months to complete. Following the bonding process, the implant and jawbone are essentially one.

Why Are People Choosing Dental Implants To Replace Missing Teeth in Miami?

When a person loses a tooth, its root is gone as well. Since the root stimulates the jawbone, once the root is no longer present, stimulation ends. A lack of stimulation leads to the body resorbing the jawbone, which causes changes in the structure of the face. These changes cause people who have lost a substantial number of teeth to appear as if they are frowning. This loss of jawbone can also make someone appear older.

Even traditional dentures, partials and bridges are unable to stimulate the jawbone. Therefore, with these prostheses, the jawbone still deteriorates. Implants are the only tooth-loss restoration option that can stimulate the jawbone, which helps maintain the natural structure of the face.

Some reasons people are choosing Miami dental implants:

They stimulate the jawbone

One of the biggest problems that people with missing teeth experience is difficulty speaking. While traditional dentures and partials may initially improve an individual’s ability to speak and chew, as time passes and the jawbone shrinks, the fit loosens. An ill-fitting dental prosthesis can cause clicking sounds, slurred speech and make it difficult to eat.

Since the cells of the jawbone grow up to the dental implants, the jawbone and implants bond, becoming one. Therefore, as long as the patient maintains a healthy mouth, the implants remain stable.

Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth

In form and function, implants successfully mimic natural teeth. Therefore, patients can eat more of the foods they love without worrying about an embarrassing mishap (e.g., foods sticking to dentures). Implants in Miami are the next best thing to natural teeth.

A beautiful smile typically translates into an improved self-esteem

Upon restoring their smiles, many patients find that their confidence increases, which, inadvertently, improves their overall self-esteem.

Can Dr. Bana Use an Implant To Replace a Single Tooth?

Yes, if a patient is missing a single tooth, multiple teeth or an entire arch of teeth, Dr. Ramon Bana can determine if he or she is a viable candidate for implant surgery. To ensure the patient feels comfortable with his or her procedure, Dr. Bana and his team take the time to walk patients through their personalized treatment plans. In addition, patients are encouraged to ask questions. Dr. Ramon Bana’s goal is not to provide patients with a quick fix, but a strong and lasting result that they can rely on for years to come.

What Makes Miami Dental Implants Better Than Traditional Bridges?

Traditionally, when several teeth were missing in a row, a dental bridge was the go-to treatment. However, this treatment requires the grinding down of the teeth that will support the bridge. Grinding down these teeth removes their protective outer shell (i.e., the enamel). While the cement that holds the bridge covers these vulnerable areas of the teeth, as time passes, the cement may wash away, leaving these teeth open for a buildup of bacteria, resulting in infection and decay. Furthermore, if the patient’s gum recedes, the metal around a traditional bridge may become visible.

With multiple dental implants, or an implant-supported bridge, Dr. Bana replaces the roots and visible portion of the patient’s teeth. This allows him to support the bridge using dental implants instead of damaging natural teeth. Furthermore, there are no concerns about decay. The results he achieves with these solutions look and feel natural.

How Long Does a Complete Mouth Restoration Process Take?

Sometimes, Dr. Bana can complete a patient’s dental restoration within 24 hours. However, the length of treatment depends on the patient’s oral health and jawbone strength. Patients who require additional procedures to prepare their mouths for implants (e.g., bone grafts, oral hygiene procedures) will have a longer treatment time. Nonetheless, when pre-surgical treatments are necessary, the entire dental implant procedure and crown placement usually takes a few months.

Who Does Dr. Bana Consider a Viable Candidate for Dental Implants in Miami?

Good candidates for dental implant surgery are those who would like to replace one, several, or an entire arch of missing teeth with a permanent solution that closely mimics the look and feel of their natural teeth. In addition, these individuals typically want to avoid the traditional tooth-replacement options (e.g., bridges, partials, full dentures). Furthermore, men and women who are considering implants need to have healthy gums and a strong, mature jawbone.

What Issues Would Cause Someone To Be a Poor Candidate for Miami Dental Implants?

An individual who has gum disease or an atrophied jawbone may not initially be a suitable candidate for implants. Nonetheless, Dr. Bana may be able to address the patient’s oral health issues, making him or her a suitable candidate for implants at a later date. However, this patient’s journey may take longer because of the issues Dr. Bana has to address ahead of time.

Some other issues that could affect an individual’s eligibility for receiving dental implants in Miami:

  • A bleeding disorder.
  • Type 1 diabetes.
  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Previous or current radiation therapy treatments to the face.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Being a smoker.
  • Excessively drinking alcoholic beverages.
  • Participating in recreational drug use.
  • Poor general health.
  • A jawbone that has yet to fully mature.

The only way Dr. Ramon Bana can determine if an individual is a good candidate for implants is with an initial consultation.

An Initial Consultation for Miami Dental Implants

The first step a patient needs to make to restore his or her smile is scheduling an initial consultation at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry. During this consultation, Dr. Bana determines the health of the patient’s gum tissue and the strength of the jawbone. He may also take a panoramic X-ray and digital images.

At this appointment, Dr. Ramon Bana gathers information from the patient about current medical conditions, previous medical conditions, allergies, as well as which prescription medications and herbal supplements the patient takes.

To ensure Dr. Bana can recommend the best treatment possible, it is vital that patients are straightforward about their medical history and life choices (e.g., smoking). Even when a patient has one of the aforementioned disorders or issues, with pre-surgical clearance from the patient’s physician, he or she may become a viable candidate for dental implants.

Which Dental Implant Systems Are Available at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry?

The Traditional Dental Implant Procedure remains an option, however, in the past 10 years, advancements in restorative dentistry have made rejuvenating a patient’s smile quicker than ever before.

Implant protocols available at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry:

  • The Traditional Dental Implant Procedure
  • The Hybridge® Dental Implant Bridge
  • All-on-4® and All-on-6®
  • Teeth Tomorrow®
  • Teeth in a Day

The protocol Dr. Ramon Bana recommends for a patient depends on whether he or she needs preoperative treatments, as well as if the patient is restoring a single tooth, numerous teeth, or an entire arch of teeth.

A General Overview of Placing Dental Implants in Miami

The number of visits a patient requires to complete his or her tooth restoration process depends specifically on the needs and desires of the patient. Dr. Bana recommends the protocol that he believes will serve the patient best.

Preparing for Dental Implant Surgery in Miami

Patients who are receiving local anesthesia, oral sedation and nitrous oxide (i.e., laughing gas) do not need to fast before their surgery. However, patients receiving IV sedation (i.e., twilight anesthesia) must refrain from eating and drinking for at least 8 hours before their procedure. In addition, patients receiving IV sedation, oral sedation or are inhaling nitrous oxide must bring a driver with them to Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry on the day of their dental implant procedure.

1. Taking a 3D Image of the Patient’s Oral Cavity and Sinuses

A 3D digital image allows Dr. Ramon Bana to assess the patient’s jawbone and sinuses to determine if the patient requires additional treatments to prepare for implant placement (e.g., bone grafting, ridge expansion, a sinus lift). If a pre-surgical treatment is necessary, he discusses this with the patient.

If the patient does not need any pre-surgical treatments, Dr. Bana can place the dental implants right away.

2. Ensuring the Patient Is Comfortable

Once the patient’s local anesthesia with oral sedation, IV sedation or nitrous oxide takes effect, Dr. Bana begins the dental implant procedure.

3. Determining Implant Location

Dr. Bana uses a 3D view of the patient’s jaw to determine the best place to insert the implant. Using his experience as a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Bana takes great care to place the implant in an area that will decrease the amount of discomfort the patient experiences after surgery.

4. Exposing the Jawbone

Dr. Bana exposes the jawbone by creating a small incision in the gingival tissue.

5. Creating a Space for the Dental Implant

Using special dental instruments, Dr. Ramon Bana carefully makes an opening in the jawbone for the implant.

6. Inserting the Implant

He inserts the small, screw-like implant into the jawbone.

In time, the jawbone and the dental implants become one, essentially creating new roots. These artificial roots stimulate the jawbone, thus stopping the deterioration process.

7. Closing the Gum Tissue

Dr. Bana covers the implant with gingival tissue.

8. Placing the Temporary Prosthesis

The osseointegration between the jawbone and the dental implants takes from 3 to 6 months. During this time, patients may wear temporary prostheses.

9. Placing the Post on Top of the Implant

When possible, Dr. Bana places the implant and post at the same time. This allows the gingival tissue to grow around the post as the jawbone and implant osseointegrate. If he is unable to place the post at the same time, Dr. Ramon Bana places them at the patient’s next appointment.

10. Attaching the Permanent Dental Prosthesis

At the last appointment, Dr. Bana attaches the patient’s custom-designed permanent dental prosthesis to the previously placed implants.

Dental Implant Procedures Available at Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry

During the patient’s initial consultation, Dr. Bana determines which dental implant protocol he or she is a good candidate for. If the patient has teeth that Dr. Bana needs to remove, he can perform this procedure at the same time he performs the patient’s implant surgery.

The Traditional Miami Dental Implant Procedure

The Traditional Dental Implant Protocol consists of several appointments. Multiple appointments are necessary because the patient needs to have some time in between the placement of his or her dental implants and the attaching of the permanent dental prosthesis. During this short lapse in treatment, the patient wears a temporary dental prosthesis.

The additional healing time allows the jawbone and implant to begin the osseointegration process before Dr. Bana places the patient’s permanent dental prosthesis.

The Hybridge® Dental Implant Bridge

The Hybridge Dental Implant Bridge is ideal for individuals who have to restore an entire arch of teeth. For these people, tooth loss is frequently related to a congenital condition, gum disease or an accident. Dr. Bana specializes in full-mouth dental restoration using the revolutionary Hybridge System.

The Hybridge System seamlessly blends exceptional technology and professional care to provide the patient with a functional dental prosthesis that is comfortable and closely resembles his or her natural teeth.

Using the Hybridge System, Dr. Ramon Bana transforms his patients’ smiles, which improves their self-confidence and enhances their quality of life.

The Benefits of the Hybridge System

The Hybridge System has a standardized clinical protocol that, when compared to conventional dental implant techniques, speeds up the patient’s treatment process. The Hybridge System is the only full-mouth restoration option that requires the use of comprehensive training methods to create a consistent clinical process.

Immediate Load Dental Implants: Teeth Tomorrow® and Teeth in a Day

The Teeth Tomorrow and Teeth in a Day protocols allow patients to receive their dental prostheses (i.e., a crown, denture or bridge) immediately after implant placement, or within a 24-hour timeframe. These protocols are perfect for individuals who are free of gum disease and have a healthy, strong jawbone.

A patient who receives immediate load implants leaves Dr. Bana’s office with a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Nonetheless, the prosthesis a patient leaves with may be temporary, which means he or she needs to return once the permanent prosthesis is ready for placement.

Implant-supported Dentures and Partials: All-on-4® and All-on-6®

Patients who are missing most or all of their teeth on one, or both of their arches may want to consider implant-supported dentures or partials. With this option, patients can receive an entire arch of teeth with 4 or 6 dental implants on each arch. Following implant placement, Dr. Bana affixes a custom-designed denture or partial to the implants.

What Are the Benefits of Implant-supported Partials and Dentures?

Since implant-supported dentures and partials remain stable, they eliminate the need for special glues. Furthermore, these dentures and partials will not slip while the patient is eating or speaking. When compared with other tooth-replacement options, implant-supported prostheses offer long-lasting results that look and feel the most natural.

These Dental Prostheses Can Be Permanently Fixed or Removable

Patients can choose to have their denture or partial removable or permanently fixed to the dental implants.

What Is the Recovery Like After Dental Implant Surgery?

Following dental implant surgery, patients receive aftercare instructions. For example, on the day of their surgery, patients must refrain from spitting, rinsing their mouths or touching their surgical sites.

For approximately 24 hours after surgery, patients can expect their gums to be red and bleeding.

Patients who experience inflammation in their cheeks can apply an ice pack to reduce the swelling. Patients should use this ice therapy as much as possible for the first 48 hours following the placement of their dental implants.

Ice Therapy

  1. Wrap a gel ice pack in a hand towel or washcloth.
  2. Gently hold the ice pack to the affected cheek for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Return the ice pack to the freezer.

Patients can perform this therapy continuously: 15 to 20 minutes on and then 20 to 30 minutes off.

For a few days after their surgery, patients need to avoid drinking hot liquids and eating hot foods. During this time, Dr. Bana recommends that his patients eat soft foods (e.g., applesauce, pasta, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, oatmeal).

Patients also need to avoid consuming spicy, hard, chewy and sticky foods (e.g., salsa, chips, steak, cookies, caramel) for a few weeks.

Caring for Dental Implants

Implants and the dental prostheses are much like natural teeth. Therefore, they require nearly identical care.

Implant and dental prosthesis care:

  • Gently brush twice a day with non-abrasive toothpaste using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Each session should last for 2 minutes. Angle the toothbrush bristles towards the gum line.
  • Avoid toothpaste that contains baking soda and peroxide because these ingredients could negatively affect the surface of the dental prosthesis. The same is true for products that whiten the teeth.
  • Consider using gel toothpaste that does not contain baking soda, peroxide or a special ingredient for whitening.
  • Patients with dental implants who would like to whiten their teeth need to speak with Dr. Ramon Bana about their options.
  • Flossing at least once a day is also important. Patients who have an implant-secured partial or denture need to use a softer floss that allows them to gently clean around the implant. A water flosser also works well.
  • Do not bite directly into hard foods (e.g., apples, carrots). Cut these foods up instead.
  • Avoid actions that can damage the implants (e.g., opening packages, chewing on ice, pens or fingernails).
  • Do not smoke.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Have biannual dental exams and professional cleanings.

Are There Any Risks Associated With Dental Implants?

As with all surgical procedures, there are potential complications. Nonetheless, the best way to reduce the likelihood of experiencing a complication is to choose an experienced cosmetic dentist to perform the implant procedure. Dr. Ramon Bana informs his patients about these possibilities before they have dental implant surgery in Miami.

How Much Do Dental Implants in Miami Cost?

Each patient is unique. Therefore, the only way that Dr. Bana can determine how much a dental implant procedure costs is with an initial consultation at his office in Miami.
