Clear Aligner Treatment Designed for Real Life
Invisalign in Miami
At Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry, our dentists helps patients improve tooth alignment with customized Invisalign treatment plans. Using advanced digital scanning, SmartTrack Aligners, and SmartForce Attachments when needed, our dentists create precise, comfortable treatment designed to fit each patient’s smile goals, lifestyle, and oral health needs.
What Invisalign Can Treat
Invisalign can address many common alignment concerns, including:
- Crooked teeth
- Overlapping teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Misaligned jaws
In some cases, Invisalign with SmartForce Attachments may also help treat more complex concerns, such as:
- Severe overbites
- Medium or large gaps
- Rotated teeth
- Tooth extrusion
- Tooth intrusion
If Invisalign is not the best option for a patient’s needs, our dentists will recommend a more appropriate treatment plan.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear SmartTrack Aligners that gradually guide the teeth into better alignment. Each set of aligners applies controlled pressure to specific teeth according to the patient’s custom treatment plan. Invisalign Teen aligners include small compliance indicators that help confirm whether the aligners are being worn as directed. SmartForce Attachments may be placed on certain teeth to help improve control and support more precise tooth movement.
Who Is a Candidate for Invisalign?
Many teenagers and adults are candidates for Invisalign. A good candidate is someone who wants to improve alignment, has treatable orthodontic concerns, and is willing to wear aligners as directed.
Because aligners must be worn consistently, successful Invisalign treatment depends on patient commitment. Our dentists evaluate each patient’s teeth, bite, and goals to determine whether Invisalign is appropriate.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires that remain attached to the teeth throughout treatment. They can irritate the soft tissues of the mouth, require dietary restrictions, and may make brushing and flossing more difficult.
Invisalign aligners are removable and nearly invisible when properly cared for. Patients can eat without restrictions, clean their teeth normally, and avoid many of the discomforts associated with brackets and wires.
Benefits of Invisalign
Patients often choose Invisalign because it offers:
- Clear, discreet aligners
- Removable trays for eating, brushing, and flossing
- No metal brackets or wires
- Improved comfort compared with traditional braces
- Easier oral hygiene during treatment
- Fewer repair-related visits
- A precise digital treatment plan
- Potentially shorter treatment time for some patients
Health Benefits of Straighter Teeth
Straight teeth are often easier to brush and floss, which may reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Proper alignment can also support better jaw function and may help reduce issues related to uneven bite pressure. When teeth or jaws are misaligned, some patients may experience temporomandibular joint concerns, including:
- Headaches
- Jaw pain or tenderness
- Clicking while speaking, chewing, or yawning
- Jaw stiffness
- Difficulty chewing
- Lockjaw
- Neck, shoulder, facial, or ear discomfort
The Invisalign Treatment Experience
Initial Consultation
During the consultation, our dentist will review the patient’s dental history, discusses their goals, and performs an oral exam. X-rays and a 3D digital scan may also be taken.
Using the iTero Element® scanner, our dentists can show patients their current tooth alignment and preview how their teeth are expected to move during treatment.
Custom Treatment Plan
Our dental team uses digital scan information to create a personalized Invisalign plan. This plan determines how many aligner sets are needed and whether SmartForce Attachments should be added for more precise movement.
Aligner Placement
When the custom aligners arrive, the patient returns to Miami Sedation and Cosmetic Dentistry. Our dental team checks the first set for fit and may place SmartForce Attachments if they are part of the treatment plan.
Progress Visits
Patients return periodically so our dentists can monitor tooth movement and determine when they are ready to advance to the next set of aligners.
BEFORE & AFTER
Invisalign Treatment
Actual Patient. Individual results may vary from patient to patient.
Recovery and Results
Many patients begin noticing changes within several weeks. Treatment length varies based on each patient’s needs, but many patients complete Invisalign treatment within 6 to 12 months. More extensive treatment plans may take longer.
Each new aligner set may feel tight at first. Mild soreness around the teeth is common for a few days because the aligners are applying pressure to move the teeth. Some patients switch to a new set before bedtime so their mouth can adjust overnight.
To manage soreness, patients may:
- Drink cold water
- Suck on ice without biting it
- Eat soft foods for a day or two
- Use over-the-counter pain medication if needed
Patients should contact our office if discomfort lasts more than three days or does not improve.
Wearing Invisalign Aligners
Patients typically need to wear Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day. Aligners should only be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing. Removing aligners too often may delay progress or disrupt the treatment plan.
Caring for Teeth During Invisalign Treatment
Good oral hygiene is essential during Invisalign treatment. Food particles and bacteria can become trapped against the teeth if aligners are placed back in the mouth without proper cleaning.
Patients should:
- Brush and floss at least twice daily
- Brush for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
- Brush about 30 minutes after eating when possible
- Rinse with water after meals if brushing is not available
- Clean aligners before placing them back in the mouth
Cleaning Invisalign Aligners
Aligners should be cleaned with a soft-bristled toothbrush, tap water, and mild soap. Patients should clean all grooves and surfaces thoroughly.
To help keep aligners fresh and stain-free, patients should soak them at least once daily. The Invisalign Aligner Cleaning System or cleaning foam may be used. Patients may also use approved cleaning methods such as diluted hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar, followed by gentle brushing and thorough rinsing before placing the aligners back in the mouth.
Maintaining Results With Vivera Retainers
After Invisalign treatment is complete, patients need retainers to help prevent teeth from shifting back. Our dentists take 3D digital images so custom Vivera® Retainers can be created.
Patients usually wear retainers while sleeping. Over time, our dentists may adjust the retainer schedule based on the patient’s needs.
